There is something about Halloween that puts me in a good mood. I put the fangs on, catch myself in the mirror and I am already playing. It makes me want to invent a name for the night, to talk differently and to see how far people will go along with the character.
And that is the best part of Halloween, that everyone is playing that night. You say you are a vampire and nobody asks for your ID. Fantasising is free and it comes to me on its own, I picture the party, the music and the face of the next one who comes over when I tell him that tonight I am not from around here.
Then there is the logistics, which has its charm too. The corset does not let me breathe, the stockings leave nothing to the imagination and neither of them is an accident. An hour and a half in, the fake hair is already killing me and by twelve my feet hurt, and even so I stay a while longer because the game gets me.
A costume does not hide anything, it gives permission. And permission suits me better than the outfit. The skull in the background is plastic. I am not.
